Academic Probation Policy

Mrs. Iritz

Principal

Stockbridge Valley Central School District

       2009-2010 School Year

In an effort to improve achievement, we have a new academic probation policy in the middle-high school. The new policy will eliminate academic ban & code and replace it with two new terms; Academic Probation and Academic Ineligibility. This should eliminate some confusion of the two terms as well as provide direction to students who are failing one or more subjects.

The policy is as follows:

Academic Probation

Any student who is failing one subject will have to stay after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:34 to 3:16. This student is on academic probation. During this after school time students will be required to work with teachers in their room or be in the ISS room. Their attendance at these sessions must be documented. Failure to attend after school help will move the student to academic ineligibility for the following week.

                                                         Academic Ineligibility

Any student who is failing two or more subjects will have to stay after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:34 to 3:16. Any failing student who participates in an extracurricular activity will be able to attend club meetings/practices. These students will not be allowed to participate in any extracurricular activity during the time they are failing. Any failing student who participates in sports will not be allowed to play in games, but will be required to sit on the bench in street clothes.

A new list of failing students will be produced on each Thursday at noon. Students may be removed from academic probation or academic ineligibility at this time, if they have a 65 or above average in all subjects. Students may also be removed earlier, if they provide documentation from their teacher and the principal that they are now passing. Students will go back on the list if they fail one or more subjects.

If a student is still failing after the first week or does not attend after school help for all three days, they will become automatically ineligible.

It is the student’s responsibility to stay after school to receive extra help on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school. Students must decide how to allot their time in order to maximize their own performance and be allowed back into the extra curricular school activities.  Probation and Ineligibility run Sunday through Saturday.

If you have any questions, please contact the Principal, Mrs. Iritz.
